Listen to Obituary

William “Brian” Stiles, age 64, died January 27, 2026, at his longtime family home off Piney Creek Road in Rockwood, Tennessee. He was born on December 14th, 1961, in Greeneville, Tennessee.

Brian graduated from Rockwood High School before going on to study Nursing, later finishing his education to become a Physician Assistant (PA). He was a dedicated medical professional in the greater East Tennessee area for many years. Brian was well respected in the local medical community as a trusted colleague and excellent teacher, helping newer nurses and professionals understand advanced human anatomy or tough medical concepts during their first days. While he never had children of his own, Brian considered his patients as his children and medicine as his one true love, serving thousands of individuals in his long career.

An avid hunter, naturalist, and traveler, Brian was most happy solo-exploring the Alaskan wilderness with only the most basic of survival goods at his side, or in the African bush with his rifle in hand, awaiting a lion or zebra to pass his gun’s sight. He spent his retirement years traveling when he could, enjoying classic movies, and exploring his fascination with Asian cultures, specifically by taking online Korean or Chinese classes. He will be remembered for his passionate views on life, rich stories from his time working in hospitals, and tales of global adventures in the wilderness.

Preceded in death by parents, Margaret Stiles and Billy Stiles; survivors include sister, Pam Sparks (Scot); nieces and nephews, Kayla Smith (Dustin), Hayden Sparks (Kelsey), and David Sparks; great-niece and nephews, Brooklyn, Elijah, Frank, and Sam.

Family and friends will be invited to a celebration of life for Brian, which will be held at a later date. Details regarding the service will be announced in the coming days. If desired, friends may make memorial contributions to St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital (1-800-805-5856). Evans Mortuary is serving
