Wanda Melton Smith

Mrs. Wanda Melton Smith, age 91, a resident of the Pine Orchard Community of Morgan County, Tennessee passed away March 26, 2026, at the Terra Bella of Athens in Athens, Tennessee. She was born September 30, 1934, in Lancing, Tennessee. She was an active member of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Harriman, Tennessee. Wanda and her husband James owned and operated The Trading Post in the Pine Orchard Community near Oakdale, Tennessee for more than 40 years where they were a big part of the community. Serving and taking care of the people in the community were especially important to them. She was also very involved in politics both at the County and State level, and through her civic involvement was instrumental in getting the Superfund program established and getting the I-40 interchange at Rockwood / Airport Road. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ellis & Edith Melton; husband of 69 years, James Smith; brothers, Roy Melton, and A.J. Melton; sister & brother-in-law, Margie & C.G. Sexton; and an infant brother.

Great Niece: Caroline Fuller

And several other relatives and friends.

Memorial Mass will be held Friday, April 17, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 535 Margrave Drive, Harriman, Tennessee 37748 with Father Michael Sweeney officiating. Committal services and inurnment will immediately follow in the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church Columbarium next to the Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Evans Mortuary of Rockwood, Tennessee is honored to serve the family of Mrs. Wanda Melton Smith.
