Virginia Winters Evans, 94, of Rockwood, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 10, after a long and fulfilling life.
Virginia was born on May 21, 1932. She was employed for many years in the banking industry before she became the owner of the B & J Restaurant in Rockwood, Tennessee. She also worked as an administrative assistant for much of her adult life before she retired to spend more time with the grandchildren she adored. A true social butterfly, she was a friend to many and was well known for her generous personality. Virginia loved cooking, gardening, sewing and needlework of all types, but quilting was her most cherished skill and hobby. She was a proud member of both the American Quilter’s Society and the Red Hat Society. She was also a life-long member of the First Baptist Church in Rockwood.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Howard Evans, son, Howard Edward “Eddie” Evans, brother Carl Edward “Wimpy” Winters, Jr., and parents, Carl Edward Winters, Sr., and Ava Spurling Winters.
She is survived by her children Carol Ann Niles, Barry Evans (Robin), and Carla McCuiston (Kevin); grandchildren Ashley Niles, Kevin Lee McCuiston (Sarah), Christen McCuiston, Lauren Carr (Chris), Jacob Evans (Megan), Amy Evans, Caleb McCuiston (Hannah), Kyle McCuiston (Miriam), Ashton Evans (Bailey), and Collin McCuiston; her great-grandchildren, Caroline McCuiston, Ellison McCuiston, Adley Schumacher, Brooklyn McCuiston, Eli Evans, Logan McCuiston, Wells Evans, Ezra Evans, Barrett Evans, Abigail McCuiston, Stevie Carr, Zoe McCuiston, Caden McCuiston, Samuel McCuiston, and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 16, from 12:00–2:00 p.m., with the funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m. at Evans Mortuary in Rockwood, Tennessee. The service will be officiated by her nephew, the Reverend Ed “Little Eddie” Winters. A graveside service will be held at Oak Grove Cemetery in Rockwood at 3:00 p.m.
