In Loving Memory: Theodore (Ted) Joseph Huxford

A Celebration of a Life Well-Lived

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a beloved and admired member of our family and community, Theodore (Ted) Joseph Huxford Jr.

Ted was born to parents Lois Huxford (nee Lockrow) and Theodore Huxford in Birmingham, MI, on December 19, 1943. At the time of his birth, his father was fighting in WW II in Italy. Ted met his father for the first time at the age of three when his seriously injured father finally came home near the end of the war.

He was an “army brat”. His family was stationed at numerous bases and cities, including Dugway Proving Ground in Utah; Kyoto, Japan; and Governors Island, NY.

Ted’s early adult life led him to enlisting in the army at the age of 17, right out of high school in the early 1960’s. After being honorably discharged from the service he moved to California, to attend Northrop Institute of Technology and began his education in engineering. Here he worked and studied hard, rewarding himself in 1966 with a brand-new Corvette which he highly modified and entered in drag racing competitions. He also worked at NASA while living in CA. Ted later transferred to the Oklahoma State University to attend graduate school where he met the love of his life and wife of 51 years, Virginia Louise (Goetz) Huxford.

In 1974 Ted and Ginny moved to Kingston, TN, to begin their professional careers in Oak Ridge. Ted worked as an engineer at Y-12 while Ginny began working as an electron microscopy technologist at ORAU. Ted was employed at ORNL for over 40 years. During his tenure he was involved in many projects at all three laboratories: Y-12, X-10, and K-25 and received recognition and awards for his numerous contributions. After retiring from ORNL he continued working as a senior scientist for USEC before finally retiring at the age of 70.

Ted was the proud father of four children: Richard L. Huxford, Peter D. Huxford, Lillian S. Huxford, and Christopher C. Huxford. He instilled his studious habits, hard work ethic, and competitive nature to all his children. He was an avid shooter and marksman, mechanic, wood worker, photographer, reader, and collector with an unquenchable thirst for knowledge.

Through the good times and the bad, Ted was always there to be counted on. This is why he’ll continue living through all the people fortunate enough to have met him.

Ted is survived by his wife, Ginny Huxford; son Richard Huxford and his spouse Danielle; son Peter Huxford and fiancée Tonika Birmley; daughter Lillian Huxford; and son Christopher Huxford. Other survivors include Ted’s brother Robert Huxford and his wife Dusty; brother Richard Huxford and his spouse Lee Koehn; sister-in-law Mary Anna Goetz and her husband James Cox; Susan Goetz and her husband Robert Schneider; brothers-in-law Victor and George Goetz and their spouses Dr. Debra Mee and Martha McFarland and sister-in-law Taran Goetz. Nephews Justin and Jordan Huxford, Nathan Cox, Philip Schneider, Will Goetz, Arthur Goetz and niece Julianna Cox and her spouse Payton Curtis.

Cremation arrangements have been made. Evans Mortuary is honored to serve the family of Mr. Theodore Joseph Huxford Jr.
