Stanley Owen Cunningham

Stanley Owen Cunningham, age 84, went home to the Lord on Saturday, October 21, 2023. He was born March 17, 1939, in Spring City, Tennessee, to Fred Wilson and Gertrude Marie “Gertie” Cunningham.  He graduated from Spring City High School in 1957. He married his beloved wife, Carolyn Miller, in Georgia on June 5, 1959.  They built a life and enjoyed 58 years of marriage before her passing in July 2017.

Stanley worked hard from an early age. He could recall plowing fields behind a mule, milking cows and churning butter all before he was ten years old. He learned carpentry, wielding, machining, and much more from his grandpa, his father and his many talented uncles. As a young man he worked on cars, dug wells and built houses.  In 1965, he began working at the DuPont plant in Chattanooga and remained there until his retirement in 1998. During this entire time, Stanley also maintained a small farm. He very much enjoyed working on his farm and making a garden. He also loved to hunt and work in his shop. 

Stanley was preceded in death by both of his parents and step-mother Pauline Carroll Cunningham, his wife Carolyn M. Cunningham, and his sisters Wilma Jean Waldo and Wanda Sue Smith.

He is survived by his daughter Vickie C. Cunningham of Lenoir City; brothers Wilson Cunningham and Rev. Everett Powers, both of Spring City; his step-sister Myra Byrd of Cleveland, TN; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family members.

Stanley was greatly loved and will be dearly missed.

The family would like to thank all the staff of Fresenius Kidney Care of Harriman for providing such loving care throughout his eleven years of dialysis.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, October 24, 2023, from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm at Evans Mortuary. A funeral service will follow at 7:30 pm with Rev. Jim Didlake officiating. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at Glen Alice Cemetery in Rockwood, Tennessee at 2:00 pm. Evans Mortuary is serving the family of Mr. Stanley Owen Cunningham.
