Shirley McCuiston Evans

Shirley McCuiston Evans, age 86, of Rockwood, TN passed away peacefully at Spring Arbor, formerly Dominion Senior Living in Crossville, Tennessee on Tuesday, April 14, 2026. She was born in Spring City, TN on May 18, 1939, to Roy and Robbie McCuistion. She was a class of 1956 graduate of Spring City High School as the class valedictorian. She graduated from East Tennessee Baptist School of Nursing in Knoxville, TN in 1959. She practiced as a Registered Nurse for more than 40 years, retiring from Cumberland Medical Center in Crossville, TN. She enjoyed the outdoors and taking hikes, genuinely loved and cared for animals, enjoyed visiting Dollywood, and spending time with her family. She enjoyed visiting her best friend from nursing school, Mary Sue Wilkerson, and her sister Dee Wilkerson. She attended Roane Community Seventh-Day Adventist Church. She was a strong independent woman who loved life. The staff at Spring Arbor often referred to her as sassy and feisty. A special thank you to the Spring Arbor staff for taking such good care of our mother.

Devoted to her family, Shirley will be sadly missed by all who loved her and knew her.

In lieu of flowers, memorials made to the Alzheimer's Association or the Roane County Animal Shelter would be greatly appreciated.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Robbie McCuistion; brother, Hoyle McCuistion; sisters, Irene Thurman and Wanda Spraque, son: Richard Kevin Haley, and special niece, Darlene Kirland.

She is survived by:

Children: Scott (Sara) Haley and Kelly (Micheal) Ragland

Grandchild: Jackson Ragland

Niece: Stephanie (Matt) Wallace

Great Nephews: Eric (Allison) DePietro, Justin (Ronnie) Crockett, and Mackenzie Hartman

Great Nieces: Grayson (David) McClung and Isabel Wallace

and 3 Great-Great Nephews and 3 Great-Great Nieces.

The family will receive friends Saturday, April 18, 2026 from 5:00 p.m. (E.D.T.) until 7:00 p.m. (E.D.T.) at the Evans Mortuary. Interment will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Rockwood, Tennessee at a later date. Evans Mortuary of Rockwood, Tennessee is honored to serve the family of Ms. Shirley McCuiston Evans.
