Mr. John William Shaw Jr. age 64, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, June 25, 2023, in Nashville, Tennessee. He was born on February 2, 1959, in North Carolina. John retired from UT Battelle after 35 years where he helped create several cancer drugs. He helped write numerous programs that are still used at the company including many related to security and are top secret. At ORNL John prepared unique engineering designs for systems to be installed in the High Flux Isotope Reactor and most nuclear facilities at ORNL. John also applied his expertise in Computer Aided Design (CAD) to solve critical design challenges in the highly rigorous nuclear environment. John also worked on the Marshall Islands and Johnston Atoll. His last job was with Gem Technologies recruiting engineers for UT Battelle. John enjoyed playing guitar, mandolin, and the Indian flute. He played golf and enjoyed walking outside and helping people in any way he could. He was retired from the Roane County Environmental Review Board, a member of Cold War Patriots, the American Indian Science and Engineering Society and the Potawatomi Nation of Oklahoma. He is preceded in death by his father John William Shaw Sr.

The family will receive friends Thursday, June 29, 2023, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Evans Mortuary in Rockwood, Tennessee. A funeral service will follow at 7:00 pm with Rev. Mike Winters and Rev. Mark McCoig officiating. Interment and Graveside services will be held at Roane Memorial Gardens on Friday, June 30, 2023, at 11:00 am. Evans Mortuary is serving the family of Mr. John William Shaw Jr.
