James Carlock “Jim” Henry, of Kingston, Tennessee passed away September 2, 2025. He was born on June 23, 1930, in Rock Spring, Georgia, to the late Joseph Eubanks Henry and Gladys Carlock Henry.
At the age of 13, Jim professed his faith and was baptized at Rock Spring United Methodist Church. He later served his country proudly in the United States Navy, spending four years aboard the U.S.S. Oglethorpe in both the Pacific Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea during the Korean War. He continued his service for an additional eight years in the Naval Reserve, including during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Jim loved sharing stories from his years at sea and his many adventures around the world.
Following his military service, Jim began a 35-year career with TVA, serving in Memphis, Paducah, and Kingston before retiring. Following retirement, he enjoyed building and flying radio-controlled aircraft and was a member of the Knox County Radio Control Society for 30 years. He was known for his humor, his love of storytelling, and his deep devotion to his family.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Jimmie Bryant Henry; and his sisters and brothers-in-law, Margie and Jack Anderson, and Hilda and Jack Babb. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Terri and Skip Wheeler; granddaughter, Phoebe Wheeler Bates and husband, Chris; and grandson, Cole Wheeler, all of Knoxville.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Doris Bowen for her devoted caregiving, which allowed Jim to remain in the comfort of his home during his later years.
Family and friends will meet at Roane Memorial Gardens in Rockwood, Tennessee on Sunday, September 7, 2025, at 2:00 pm for Graveside services and interment with Rev. Maureen Fryer officiating. Military Honors will be presented by the Roane County Military Memorial Honor Guard and the U.S. Navy. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Domestic Ministries of Samaritan's Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607. Evans Mortuary of Rockwood, Tennessee is honored to serve the family of James Carlock “Jim” Henry.
