Darrell Wayne Comer, age 76, of Westel, Tennessee, passed peacefully into his eternal home on June 18, 2025, at Parkwest Medical Center in Knoxville, surrounded by his loving family.
Darrell was born on December 17, 1948, in Dibrell, Tennessee, to Austin Ray Comer and Thelma Erlene Hobbs. He lived a life marked by devotion - to his family, his faith, and the values of service and hard work.
A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, Darrell served as an E-5 Technical Sergeant and Crew Chief of a C-130 aircraft, playing a key role in keeping missions flying safely and efficiently. After his military service, he went on to build a long and respected career as a telephone repairman with BellSouth and AT&T, where he was Known for his reliability, precision, and dedication.
Darrell was a true craftsman at heart. Known as “Mr. Fix-it,” he had a gift for woodworking, mechanical repair, and gardening, along with a deep appreciation for “all things old”. Whether he was rebuilding something broken or growing something from the earth, Darrell did it with Patience, care, and joy. His garden and his workbench were testaments to a life lived with purpose and pride.
He also had a soft spot for animals - especially his beloved cats, who were a constant source of companionship and comfort in his later years.
Darrell was a faithful member of the Church of Christ, Where he found strength, hope, and community throughout his life.
He is survived by his loving wife, Gail Howard Golliher Comer, and his legacy lives on in their children:
Jeremy Comer, Travis Comer, Shannon Comer, and Amanda (Greg) Pierce.
He was a proud grandfather to:
Zachary Comer (Tosha), Brennen Cook, DeLana Roberts, Deseray Watson (Luke), Ethan Pierce, Keaton Pierce (Taylor), Brandon Pierce, Ayden Pierce and Peyton Pierce.
He was also blessed with great-grandchildren who brought him so much joy:
Elise Parsons, Lydia Parsons, Timber Comer, Ella Watson, Paisley Pierce, and Rynleigh Pierce.
Darrell is also survived by his siblings Gary Comer (Linda), Mary Carter (Dana), Elise Holman (Randy), Ricky Comer (Julie), Tim Comer (Missy), and April Alcorn (Robert) and many nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends who loved him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents Austin Ray and Thelma Comer, His Sisters, Donna Comer, Janet Comer, Tammy Comer- Rory, and nephew Levi Comer.
Darrell’s family and friends will remember him for his wisdom, his work ethic, and his unwavering love. He was a man who showed up, fixed things, and made life better - not only through his hands, but through his heart.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to the Westel Volunteer fire Department or the Crossville Church of Christ in Darrell’s memory.
Cremation arrangements have been made and no services are being held at this time.
