Bernice LeJean Jordan White

Calumet City, Illinois

Bernice LeJean Jordan-White was born on October 13, 1933, in Pachuta, Mississippi. She was the fourth child out of ten born to Theodore Roosevelt Jordan, Sr., and Henrietta Jordan who both preceded her in death. Bernice was preceded in death by five sisters and two brothers: Mildred Ewing, Bonnie Jean Davison, Eunice Davidson, Ethel Williams, Mary McGee, Theordore Roosevelt Jordan, Jr., and Henry Jordan.

Bernice and her family moved to Rockwood, Tennessee where she attended Campbell High School and graduated in 1952. While there she became a top basketball player who received a college scholarship to attend Savannah State College (now Savannah State University) located in Savannah, Georgia. While in college, Bernice became a member of Sigma Gamma Rho, Sorority, Incorporated, where she was secretary of her chapter, and was a member of the Student National Education Association, where she served as the parliamentarian. In 1960 Bernice graduated from Savannah State College with her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education.

A few years after her college graduation, Bernice moved to Chicago, Illinois where she received her Illinois teaching license and started working for the Chicago Public Schools system. She worked for CPS until 1992 with about 26 years of service. During her teaching career, she received many awards such as the “Improving Teacher Effectiveness in the Classroom”.

While she was in Chicago, Bernice met her longtime companion Edward Robinson, who preceded her in death. They had two children: Michele R. White and Michael R. White. Bernice accepted Christ at a very young age. While living in Rockwood, Tennessee, she was a member of the First Baptist Church. While living in Chicago, Illinois, she became a member of the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church. Going to church and accepting Christ was very important to Bernice. She wanted to make sure her children did the same. Bernice loved her family. Going to the Johnson/Jordan Annual Family Reunion and traveling to her hometown of Rockwood, Tennessee for any and all events were special to her.

Bernice was a beautiful person with a beautiful soul. She was a true angel on Earth. On Monday, April 21, 2025, God need another angel, so He called her home.

Bernice leaves behind: on sister, Barbara Swinson; one brother, Curtis Jordan; one daughter, Michele R. White; one son, Mchael R. White; three grandsons, Jason M. White, Daniel X. White, and Alexander J. White; three great grandchildren, Jacion White, Kailan Wright, and Summer Wright; two special women who were like her daughters, Denita D. White, and Shwana L. Thomas; an a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

The family will receive friends Saturday, May 3, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. (E.D.T.) until 12:00 noon (E.D.T.) at the Evans Mortuary. Funeral services will follow on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at 12:00 noon (E.D.T.) from the Chapel of Evans Mortuary with Pastor Steven Womack and Pastor Willie James Jordan officiating. Committal services and interment will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Rockwood, Tennessee. Evans Mortuary of Rockwood, Tennessee is honored to serve the family of Mrs. Bernice LeJean Jordan-White.
