Alvin D. Christmas, age 80, of Harriman, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord on Monday, September 8, 2025, peacefully during his sleep. He was born July 5, 1945, in Harriman, Tennessee. In June, Alvin and Joyce celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary. He was a member of the South Harriman Baptist Church in Harriman where he served as a Deacon, Trustee, and Sunday School Teacher. His early career began with his employment at Roane Hosiery and Tennessee Forging Steel (“The Steel Mill”) in Harriman. Following the earning of his Associate’s Degree from Roane State Community College, he practiced as an Industrial Seismologist and was employed with Vibration Control Engineering. He later owned and operated his own company, Appalachian Seismology, providing service and safety at many construction sites and mining operations. He was a member of the International Society of Explosives Engineers. Alvin was a U.S. Navy Veteran serving on the Destroyer, the U.S.S. Maddox DD731, during the Tonkin Gulf Incident and the Vietnam War. During his time in the Navy, he earned a National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Vietnam), and a Navy Unit Commendation. Alvin enjoyed many hobbies including gardening, golfing, landscaping, riding his 4-wheeler, meticulously mowing, and bamboo farming. He also enjoyed his two donkeys, Buck and Roy, and his cat, Tom. He was formerly an avid fisherman, active with B.A.S.S. Masters. Most of all, Alvin enjoyed spending time with family, especially his two grandsons, Cameron and Ethan. He was known and will be remembered as a man of integrity, strong work ethic, and resourcefulness. He will be remembered by all as an excellent storyteller. Above all, he loved God, Family, and Country. He was preceded in death by his father at an early age, Eugene Christmas; mother, Bernice McCarroll Christmas Schubert; stepfather, Renfro Schubert; brothers, Gary Christmas, and George Larry Christmas (Rita); and grandparents, Arthur & Elda Christmas, and H.F. & Grace McCarroll.

The family will receive friends at Evans Mortuary on Friday, September 12, 2025, from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. with the Funeral service following at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel with Pastor James Griffith officiating. Committal services and interment will follow in the Piney Grove Cemetery in Midtown (Harriman), Tennessee with full military honors by the Roane County Military Memorial Honor Guard and the U.S. Navy. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the South Harriman Baptist Church; 626 Ruritan Road, Harriman, TN 37748. Evans Mortuary of Rockwood, Tennessee is honored to serve the family of Alvin D. Christmas.
